I live in a world of art. I function through artistic thoughts and processes that translate and filter my life and environment. Since I was a young boy art has been my compulsion that supplies and generates pride, a voice, and a means to create. I find sanctuary in converting a blank canvas or pages into an impressive or communicative image, which never would have been realized without my artistic hand. My art commissions center me in realism, while intermingling with my expressive and experimental intentions. My work takes on the unexpected. I manipulate, and recreate my world and thoughts onto the page.
Over the years, my art has taken many forms. Originally immersing myself in drawing, with a true intimidation of paint I developed my understanding of form and composition. My need to experiment with both subject and medium leads me towards the wonderful and powerful welding of color and personal marks. I often experiment my way towards expression. Through textures, collage and extreme use of color I develop ways of placing my intentions on the page. Sometimes subtle, I always push past my reality by adding to or corrupting my subject. Working in a succession of pieces, I gain understanding and confidence that allows my expressive marks freedom. I contrast the aggressive and barbaric with the soft, airy and subtleties of light, space and color.
My art is a victim of my surroundings. I am a high school art teacher and my family, friends, students and teaching experiences continuously influence me. My teaching brings me back to the fundamentals. It supplies subject matter and often leads me towards the need to express. Each new piece is a springboard that elevates me to new processes or ideas, as my artistic thirst is never quenched.
